Every drops count

In rural communities in Ethiopia, getting enough water is a daily struggle. The Warka Water experimental project offers a simple water collection system designed to be managed collectively by its users. Energy self-sufficient, cheap, and easy to assemble and move, it takes the form of a 9-metre tower. Inside the vertical bamboo structure, a fine-meshed net traps rainwater and atmospheric moisture, which then run down into a collector.
The construction does not only offer a fundamental resource; it can also become a social space in the heart of the village, like a contemporary palaver tree. Since 2012, twelve different prototypes have been installed across the country.
